Course modules:
below is an overview and the precise information may change in the live course.

Introduction to Flow

To make sure everyone is up to speed we go over a thorough understanding of the flow experience, why it is important, what benefits are associated with flow, and examine how using flow as a focus can help our overall self-development.

Flow Model

We unravel in detail how to use the Flow Model, what it means, and why it is important. We look at how people have used it in different settings and how it can become a treasured self-assessment tool.

Pathway to Flow

We build upon the Flow Certificate and take your understanding of The Pathway to Flow to a whole new level. We unpack the underlying theories, practice multiple skills for each component of the pathway, and learn how to help others use them. Understanding the pathway will provide you with a bedrock system to apply flow, achieve peak performance, and engineer more joy in your life.

Scientific Signature to Flow

We delve into the flow experience with no stone left unturned. We examine flow from almost every scientific discipline that has studied it.

Philosophy of Flow

Flow is 50+years old in Western sciences but older civilisations have accrued disciplined thought around similar states for centuries. In this module, we unpack it all.

Flow Mindset, Personality & Predisposition

We will unpack what constitutes a Flow Mindset, how to adopt it, and what personalities facilitate flow better than others. We unpack an autotelic personality and look at the research behind mindsets that facilitate joy and peak performances. We will unpack what self-leadership means and how to commit to prioritising your self-leadership moving forwards.

Psychophysiological Resetting

In this module, we identify multiple skills to use in different situations. If we truly want to change our habits towards finding flow, then we need to take responsibility for the states underlying this change. In this module we learn how to reset our mental and physical states so that we can wipe these states clean and move towards flow from an unbiased and uninhibited position.

Applied Flow Skills

Throughout the course you will be picking up a multitude of Flow Skills to add to your toolbox. We take the time to not only hear about them and see them in action, but also integrate them into our lives.

Intention & Goal Setting

Every intention creates energy and subsequent thoughts and action. We learn how to mould our notions, intentions, and goals to embody a powerful purpose towards the task. We look at the future of goal setting, what works, what doesn’t, and how to help ourselves and others create clarity and focus, whilst not being stressed by our own expectations and desired achievements.

Managing Motivation and Personal Needs

In this module, we look at how to maintain high levels of motivation and how to find a little inspiration even in those mundane tasks. We delve into the most widely accepted motivational theories and how to use them to our advantage. We will examine your personal needs, your motivational preferences, and how fulfilled they may be or not—and, of course, what to do about it.

How to Manage the Level of Difficulty in your Life

We understand how our arousal and the difficulty of a situation interact to help us peak at the right time. We examine what we have in our control to optimise any event to our advantage. We go over the theory and practice of creating your unique optimal zone of arousal, so you can hit the sweet spot required for flow within difficult situations.

Building Resilience and Beyond

When we are curious and developmentally focused, as we are in flow, we utilise our faster, more capable cognitive processes and build a natural resilience to challenge and difficulty—this is one of the reasons that when in flow, we are so effective. In the diploma, we unpack how to achieve this, what this looks like psychologically and neuroscientifically, and how to make it habitual. We examine the differences between mental toughness, grit, persistence, and resilience, and what may best serve us.

Vision & Visualisation

In this section, we look at how the mind works to create visual representations of the future to best serve our agenda. We examine how to use this to our advantage and successfully visualise an event prior to it happening. We experience how our ability to use imagery is extremely powerful, how it can train our brains towards specific ends, consciously or not, and what all this has to do with flow and living in an optimal manner. We will examine fundamental theories of human functioning such as bayesian inferencing and why being conscious of it can radically improve our life.

Managing Attention & Consciousness

Some might say that our attention is all we ever have. What we choose to attend to determines much of what we think, feel, and act upon. It shapes our awareness and actions. In this module, we uncover how our mind and body are wired to neurologically respond in set ways. We will examine our internal and external architecture and what we can do about it.

Developing Trust

In the moment, we have the power to maximise most of our abilities by trusting ourselves to act. In this section, we look at why this is, how this happens, and what we can do to harness our innate intuition and reach and maintain a level of total entrustment.

Confidence, Strengths & Risks

We will look at how to shift perspectives and examine the underpinning theories surrounding boosting confidence, self-efficacy, and acquiring incremental gains. And this is just the beginning! We understand how risk occurs, how to harness it positively, and when to use our strengths.

Stress and Survival

How we react in any given moment is down to many factors, not least our most basic drivers and inherited intelligence. In this section, we unpack how our biology helps and hinders how we meet a challenge, conserve energy, and find comfort and competence, or not.

Mastery Approaches

Mastery and the approach therein are often misconstrued. It is important to understand the differences between Eastern and Western ‘mastery’, how and why we may want to use it as a framework for our achievements and what it has to do with flow.

Preparatory Skills

Preparation is everything. Often how we feel, how we perform, and what we take from an event or experience is down to how we prepared. Over this course we will look to professionalise your preparation at different times and how to prepare to your advantage.

Thought Management

With over 70,000 thoughts a day, if we don’t manage our thoughts and enact a level of mastery over our mind, then our mind will manage us. Understanding, therefore, why we think and how to manage our thoughts from a number of different models is imperative to personal empowerment and performance. We will delve into psychological flexibility, ACT, mindfulness, REBT, CBT, and other thought management tools and look at what best serves you.

Ego, Self & Flow

No self-development course is complete without examining our obsessions with ‘self’ and how it interferes with… everything. We will track back to early theories about ego states and how we can move past levels of self-consciousness to reach a higher level of self-actualisation.

Emotional Competence

Emotional competence results not only from a strong grounding of emotional intelligence but also from emotional wisdom. We will look at several models and methods that help to process and deal with emotions effectively. We will look under the hood of how emotions affect our experience, enjoyment, and ability to act, and how we can optimise our emotional landscape.

Deep Flow

Understanding deeper states of flow, how to get there, what attributes need to be surrendered to let them happen, and what they can lead to is one of life’s most treasured proficiencies. Over this course we examine the differences between micro and macro flow and how to approach 'deep flow' from a number of angles. We also look at how energetic awareness, spirituality and altered states of consciousness interact with flow.

Developing a Flow Ritual

To help bring all our training together it is important to simplify how we activate it. Towards the end of the course, we will look at how to develop rituals that put it all together and trigger a host of learning in one action.

Embodied Cognition

We will identify how the mind and body are inexplicably linked and how to utilise both of the two interconnected arms to reverse-engineer the other. We will examine heart-rate coherence, dual cognition, and many forms of managing our states.

Group Flow

Flow in groups is a hot topic that stirs a lot of debate. In this module we look at different group flow theories and a variety of team principles that facilitate optimal and high performing team environments.

Flow and Relationships

How we relate to ourselves, and others is paramount to finding fulfilment in life. We look at the five key principles that develop sustainable rich relationships and unpick how they play out in our own life.

Flow Culture

In this section, we look at how to integrate flow into teams and organisations. We discuss how to create and sustain a culture that allows flow, what this looks like, and what are the core principles that foster flow.

Periodisation & Peaking

As any performer–from surgeons to artists–will know, performing at your peak at the right time is critical to getting the results you want. We will look at how to manage your calendar, your preparation timelines and the main components to ensuring that you peak at the right time.

Working with Others

Throughout this course, you will be working with others to improve your ability to find flow and highlight how you can live a more optimal life. We will also dedicate time to examining how we can disseminate what you have learnt: how you can teach, coach, manage, and help others to find flow. We will look at how you can bring the learning from your course into your professional setting—what works, what doesn’t, and what areas you may need to improve.

Meditation

Throughout the course there will be several take-home meditations to practice that include key messages that can help form new transforming habits. If unfamiliar with meditating, we will help you past any hurdles.

Flow and Society

Finally, we will look at what a systemic integration of flow could mean to society, the telemony of self, cultural constitutions, and important societal problems.
